Hello!
Welcome to Berry Family Law. If you are here, it probably means that you have questions and are going through a difficult time.
It’s OK.
My name is Susan Berry and I have been practicing family law in Ontario for more than 15 years. I am also divorced and a mother to two teenagers (Ack!). I thought I knew what it took to get through a divorce, but when I experienced it in my own life, I realized that there is more than just navigating the legal process – just as importantly, there is navigating the emotional process as well.
What I found particularly distressing was processing the loss of hope that comes with accepting a partnership is truly over and how it impacts every aspect of your life all at once.
Separations and divorces are difficult for everyone involved, especially if the separating couple has children. My law firm has seen most every kind of divorce case possible and I have the experience to plan accordingly for all scenarios, as well as knowing what will be required from me, my firm and you throughout our time together.
I honestly enjoy helping others get through this tumultuous process. I believe knowledge is key to making great decisions, so I will ensure that you are fully apprised of all your legal options and obligations. It is also important that you get a fair and equitable settlement once your divorce or separation is finalized.
Starting this process can be difficult and scary and you can overwhelm yourself with questions of where to begin. Well, the good news is that you have already started your journey by being here. The first step is usually the hardest and you have taken it! I would be happy to stand next to you for every step coming up, because I know the way and can show you.
My experience taught me that every single case (and person!) is unique. It is important that each case is handled as its own entity, tailored to your specific needs and circumstances.
Over the years, colleagues and clients ask me what my why and how I can continue to do family law. While I do love a good trial, and take great pleasure in a well-drafted Separation Agreement, that is not why I am a family law lawyer. My answer has always been, and always will be, it is helping people get through one of the most difficult times in their life. I want to help you open the door to a new life, and step through it with confidence.
I am a strong believer that life is about moving forward and I bring that passion, thinking and philosophy to work and my clients. It is important that your case is not only handled diligently, but as quickly as possible, so you can move forward to begin a new and exciting chapter in your life.
I will help get you there.
